It is universally accepted that once vascular (blood vessel) cells are taken out of humans for testing in the laboratory, they do not behave or respond to stimuli in the same manner. This is a true characteristic of all human cells removed from their organ source. Thus, results from drug and chemical studies on isolated cultured cells in static conditions are often misleading.
The HemoShear proprietary device can efficiently and reliably transform isolated human vascular cells from their static cell-culture state and recalibrate them to their in vivo (inside the living organism) behavior within hours. This recalibration has already been shown to be robust and statistically reliable in HemoShear flow devices using cells from more than 50 human donors. The device is able to restore the cells to their in vivo behavior by applying “normal” blood-flow forces. It is also able to create an inflammatory or disease state by applying “disease” state blood-flow forces to the cell-culture system. The blood-flow patterns are generated from actual human magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. In so doing, HemoShear’s technology uniquely simulates human blood-flow and blood-vessel conditions in the laboratory. This breakthrough technology enables the Company to simulate in vivo drug screening for efficacy and toxicity in the human arterial vasculature, as well as many other organ systems and disease states.
