Our Technology

It is universally understood that once cells are taken out of humans for testing in the laboratory, they do not behave or respond in the same manner as when in the human body. This is true of all human cells removed from their organ source. Thus, results from drug and chemical studies on isolated cultured cells in static conditions are often misleading.

The HemoShear technology can efficiently and reliably transform human cells from their static cell-culture state and recalibrate them to their in-vivo (inside the living organism) behavior within hours. This recalibration has been shown to be robust and statistically reliable in HemoShear’s technology in over 3000 experiments and using over 800 human donors. The technology is able to restore the cells to their in vivo behavior by applying region-specific hemodynamic (blood flow) forces. As a result, the technology can create a wide-range of healthy and disease-prone (i.e, pro-inflammatory) states by applying hemodynamics derived from these different vascular regions to the cell-culture system. The hemodynamic forces are generated from actual human magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. Using MRI data, HemoShear's technology uniquely simulates human hemodynamics and other physiologically relevant conditions in the laboratory. This breakthrough technology enables the Company to more accurately investigate and understand human biology and simulate in-vivo drug testing for efficacy and toxicity in human organ systems in healthy and disease-prone states.

HemoShear’s technology combines important physiological parameters to recreate in-vivo biology in the laboratory. The technology:

  • Uses primary human (or species-specific) cells in co-culture
  • Applies human- (or species-) derived regional hemodynamic forces*
  • Recapitulates region-specific in-vivo cell phenotypes*
  • Replicates physiologically relevant disease conditions*
  • Maintains multi-cell separation for independent analysis of each cell type*
  • Produces meaningful cell samples using the HemoShear system for biological analyses (e.g. genes, proteins, secreted factors, functional assays, high-content screening)*
  • Enables functional assessment of specific cell response (e.g. permeability, monocyte adhesion)*
  • Allows for versatile control of biological conditions and parameters*
  • Enables study of specific patient sub-populations
