Laboratory Operations
HemoShear operates in 8,000 square feet of secure laboratory space and offices at HemoShear's own facilities in historic Charlottesville, Virginia. Security cameras and an alarm system govern control to the building. Security codes are required for entry to the building, and separate security codes are required for access to the laboratory space.
Laboratory operations are directed by Nicole Hastings, Ph.D., an expert in vascular biology and hemodynamic models. Experiments are conducted by HemoShear’s laboratory specialists that are experienced in culturing primary human cells. They are trained extensively in the conduct and analysis of experiments using the HemoShear technology.
HemoShear's operations support all functions needed to receive and store materials, conduct human surrogate experiments and perform endpoint assays. Our equipment is state-of-the-art in order to provide meaningful analyses to pharmaceutical customers. Client’s drug compounds are stored in a separate controlled access room. The building has a back-up power generator to ensure continuous operation and is test-run on a regular basis. Our computer systems and data are backed up on a regular basis and stored off-site.
All experiments are conducted in accordance with HemoShear's standard operating procedures and comply with Good Laboratory Practices. Our laboratory meets Biosafety Level 2 requirements for handling human cells and certain live viruses.
Our facility has been designed to accommodate expansion of HemoShear's human surrogate technology into other organ systems and disease models.
